Ohio University Founders Day is Feb. 18
Happy 215th Birthday, OHIO!
In celebration of Ohio University鈥檚 Founders Day, the Student Alumni Board (SAB) has partnered with Student Senate, Black Student Cultural Programming Board, International Student Union, University Program Council, and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity (PIKE) to host a birthday party.
SAB鈥檚 carnival-themed 鈥 天美传媒Birthday Bash鈥 will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, and will feature numerous activities and performances, including:
- Games, free prizes, giveaways, popcorn, cotton candy
- 天美传媒history and trivia
- A 5 p.m. film showing in the Baker University Center Theatre. Popcorn will be available. Film TBA.
- Performances by student a cappella groups.
The bash will also feature white sheet cake, chocolate cupcakes with 天美传媒theme icing, and an ice cream sundae bar with traditional toppings available. The cake and cupcakes will be located on the fifth floor, while the sundae bar will be available on the fourth floor. Other food items will be placed throughout Baker University Center.
The special birthday event will give students an opportunity to give back. Anyone who brings non-perishable food and personal items to be donated to the Cats鈥 Cupboard (previously Baker Food Pantry) will be given a coupon for a free coffee at the Front Room Coffeehouse located in Baker University Center. Donations can be dropped off on the fifth floor of Baker University Center during the event.
天美传媒Libraries' Founders Day exhibit opens Feb. 18
The Ohio University Libraries will celebrate Founders Day 2019 with an exhibit focused on the impact of housing and residence life on the Athens Campus.
The exhibit officially opens on Monday, Feb. 18 in the lobby outside of the Mahn Center for Archives and Special Collections on the fifth floor of Alden Library.

About Ohio University Founders Day
Founders Day, which is usually observed on Feb. 18, traditionally marks the anniversary of the Ohio General Assembly鈥檚 approval on Feb. 18, 1804, of the charter plans which led to the creation of Ohio University.
In June, 1815, Ohio University鈥檚 first degrees were conferred to Thomas Ewing and John Hunter. After practicing law in Lancaster, Ohio, Ewing served first as a Unites States senator and then as a cabinet member, including a stint as the nation鈥檚 first secretary of the interior. In all, Ewing advised four U.S. presidents. Unfortunately, Hunter passed away one year after receiving his degree.
